The K&P Trail also stands out for its scenic beauty, featuring rock cuts, wetlands, and historic sites along the route. Cyclists can enjoy peaceful rides through diverse terrains, from paved urban paths to more challenging gravel sections. PROTECT NATURE, ENJOY THE PEACE

I think it’s fantastic that many of Kingston’s parks have naturalized areas intentionally left to grow wild. This approach supports local biodiversity by providing habitats for native plants and animals. Staying on designated paths not only protects these sensitive ecosystems but also helps visitors avoid potential hazards like ticks and poison ivy. It’s a great example of how urban spaces can coexist with nature, offering a peaceful environment for recreation while promoting ecological health.

ESCAPE THE CITY, EMBRACE THE SILENCE

I did a 32 km ride on the K&P Rail Trail, starting from Kingston and heading up to Wilmer. The trail quickly took me out of the city, where the landscape transformed into a peaceful, natural haven. The route is a beautiful blend of overgrown bushes, trees, and scenic rock cuts, providing a sense of solitude and connection with nature. As I cycled further from Kingston, the sounds of the city faded, replaced by the calming rustle of leaves and occasional bird calls. The trail, which follows the path of the old railway, passes through quiet farm country and abandoned train stops, offering glimpses into the region’s history. This peaceful ride was the perfect escape, with the only company being the surrounding nature and the soft hum of my bike tires on the gravel.

The K&P Trail, stretching all the way to Renfrew, is the longest rail trail in Ontario, making it a fantastic route for those who enjoy long, uninterrupted rides through diverse landscapes. The section up to Clarendon Station is particularly well-maintained, making it ideal for cyclists of all levels. Beyond this, the trail becomes more rugged, providing a more challenging ride for those seeking adventure.
